South Orange Town Hall Renovation

southorangetownhall

The Village President and Board of Trustees of South Orange unveiled the two proposals that are on the table for the adaptive re-use of historic South Orange Town Hall – quality lodging or dining.  South Orange Hotel Group has proposed a boutique hotel (http://www.thedebaryinn.com/) and Landmark Hospitality (http://www.landmarkhospitality.com/) has proposed a restaurant.  They are the owners/operators of Liberty House Restaurant, The Ryland Inn and The Stonehouse at Stirling Ridge. They are seeking the public’s input on these two proposals.

SOVCA, the South Orange Village Center Alliance supports allowing a private entity to complete the restoration and operate a quality lodging or dining facility at the site, instead of  returning Village administration and government to the building.

Fourth of July Art

jul4kaufmanThere are so many fun traditions in Maplewood, especially this time of year. One is the annual July 4th art project.

Last year’s successful flag/pixel project has spawned this year’s eagle/pixel project. So these works will be mounted on baseball backstops – The flag to be restored and the eagle to be created. Contact John Kaufman if you’d like to get involved.  He has a stop on this year’s Studio Artist Tour also.

Three NJ state assmebly members have introduced legislation to try and build casions in their North Jersey counties – Ralph Caputo (D-Essex), Valerie Vainieri Huttle (D-Bergen), and Raj Mukkerji (D-Hudson).  Voters will be given the right to amend the state Constitution with a referendum to allow the casinos to be built.

Atlantic City  gambling revenues have decreased by BILLIONS of dollars due to competition from NY and PA and 4 of its 12 casinos closed.

The Meadowlands is a possible site.
